VFX Artist Senior

We are looking for a senior VFX artist to produce visual effects and particles for Novarama’s games. The ideal candidate should implement, under supervision, video game special effects in accordance with a project’s artistic direction and production deadlines. The ideal candidate should have strong artistic skills, and an understanding of the technical constraints on the target platforms.

You will use the Unreal Engine particle systems and create all aspects of special effects artwork:

  • Particle system templates and animation
  • Particle textures
  • Particle models (as necessary)
  • Lighting

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in game-oriented visual effects, or equivalent training. Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in modeling, texture, lighting and image processing or other relevant experience.

  • Must be proficient in Photoshop, After Effects, or equivalent tools
  • Good knowledge of 3DS Max particles/dynamics systems, and special effects creation
  • Good knowledge of Unreal Engine
  • Good understanding of art fundamentals: color theory, lighting, shape, composition, etc

 

Good knowledge of in-game special effects, including:

  • Smoke
  • Explosions
  • Fire
  • Weather
  • Atmospherics
  • Water
  • Light/Energy
  • Damage
  • Full screen filters

  • Comes up with creative ideas and solutions and communicates them to the leads
  • Works with the lead to create a plan and schedule
  • Proactively communicates task status to peers, customers, and leads
  • Regularly follows up on the status of dependencies that are holding up the task
  • Provides self-assessment on how to improve your own performance.
  • Works within the technical limitations to manage the performance of the game
  • Matches the required art style of a project
  • Works closely with direction of Creative Leadership to create high quality visual effects
  • Collaborates with Graphics Technical Artist to ensure necessary technology/ features are present in order to reach the visual benchmarks
  • Creates and maintains workflow documentation for your team’s content
  • Shares artistic knowledge with artists, and supports them when needed
  • Must be responsible, proactive, accountable, and personable
  • Good organizational and analytical skills, and able to solve problems
  • Passion for creating and playing games
  • Able to take constructive criticism and keep up with changes
